Modelling

The modelling activities of the Polar Meteorology and Climatology Group are briefly summarized below.

Atmosphere Snow and Ice
The Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) model is applied in studies addressing boundary-layer and mesoscale processes in the Arctic, Antarctic, and mid-latutudes.

The HIGHTSI model is applied in numerous studies on thermodynamics of sea ice, lake ice, and the snow pack on top of them, in the Arctic, Antarctic, Baltic Sea, and Bohai Sea.
Related publication by our group.
The HIRLAM model we have applied in the Arctic, Baltic Sea and Finland.
Related publication by our group.
The SNICAR model is applied in simulations of snow albedo.
Related publication by our group.
The University of Helsinki 2D mesoscale model is applied in process studies of the atmospheric boundary layer, flow over sea ice, and katabatic winds.
